Have you taken a look at your Martide messages inbox lately? If so, you’ll have noticed that we’ve made a few changes. (And if you haven’t checked it out yet, please do so as soon as you’ve finished reading this blog post!)
Although we launched the new look inbox back in December, we have to say that we’re pretty pleased with it and so we thought it (and our hard working Development Team) deserved a special blog post dedicated to it (and them!)
You might remember that before December the inbox and messaging system, although functional and a great way for employers, manning agents and seafarers to stay in touch with one another, was fairly simple in its look and layout.
The all new, all-singing, all-dancing inbox however, is not only a lot nicer to look at, it is also a lot more streamlined and intuitive to use.
Let’s take a closer look.
To get to your message inbox, when you’ve logged into your Martide account, click the little envelope icon at the top right of your screen next to your profile picture.
This is what that looks like for employers, manning agents and seafarers / candidates respectively:
Once you’re in your inbox, you’ll see a number of categories in a panel on the left hand side. This is how your messages are stored and organized in the system.
Those categories are different depending on your user status.
- If you are an employer / shipowner / ship manager, your inbox is organized by vessel, seafarer, and manning agency.
- If you're a manning agent, your inbox is organized by vessel, seafarer and employer agent.
- If you’re a seafarer / candidate, your inbox is organized by job and manning agency.
No matter what type of user you are, your new inbox has been created to make it much easier for you to find the vessel, company, job, or person you’re looking for.
For example, the side panel of the employer’s inbox looks like this when the categories are compressed:
You can scroll up and down your list of vessels and manning agents using the side arrows, as highlighted in the screenshot above. To see all of your candidates, click the View all Seafarers button. This view is similar for manning agents too.
To expand a category - click on the ^ symbol next to it. This will open up a list of all of the vessels, and manning agents (for employers) or employer agents (for manning agencies).
When a category is expanded, click on anything listed below it to get more information about that vacancy and bring up related messages. For example:
In the screenshot above, an employer has clicked to expand the list of vessels, and clicked on a vessel. This brings up a list (the second column) of all the seafarers who have applied for positions on that vessel.
Clicking on a seafarer in that column brings up the conversation history (in the middle panel) and, on the far right, that candidate’s personal information.
At the top of the main message section you will see a blue/white button that lets you toggle between your messages to and from seafarers / candidates and manning agents.
At the bottom on the message screen are star and paperclip icons - see the screenshot below:
If you click on the paperclip you can upload documents or files from your computer to attach to the message. If you click on the star, you will be able to select one of your pre-written email templates, to save you the time and effort of typing out a message you send often.
To create pre-written message templates, go to Settings and click on Message Templates next to the envelope icon:
And there you have it. We hope that’s given you some insight into your new Martide inbox, although the best way to get a feel for it is to log in and go and have a click around, if you haven’t already done so!
