Come and Hang Out with Martide on Social Media!

Come and Hang Out with Martide on Social Media!

Eve Jones

For this post we thought we’d share a bit of social media love and let anyone who reads our weekly seafarer blog know that we’re also active on some other platforms, namely social media.

If you're also on social media you'll probably know how easy it is to spend hours scrolling through your news feeds and looking at funny animal videos - we're guilty of it too - but on Martide's social media accounts we try to provide our followers with something useful every now and again!

Something useful, of course, being seafarer jobs.

By the way, keep reading if you're not using any social media channels as we'll let you into a few secrets and tell you why you should be using at least some social media platforms in your hunt for the latest and most up-to-date jobs at sea.

But it's not all work, work, work as we're also big fans of sharing cool photos and maritime videos from the people that we follow.

So let's get into it and tell you where you can find us on social media.

Come and hang out with Martide on Social Media!

We don't use every single social media website out there - we just don't have the time for that! We've also got blog posts to write, our shipowner and ship manager clients to keep happy, and of course seamen and women to help find the best seafarer jobs!

Connect with Martide on Facebook

But you will find Martide on Facebook - naturally! Who isn't on Facebook? And while privately we all might moan about the amount of time some of our friends spend on the website, there's no denying that Facebook has its uses.

On our Facebook page, for example, we post our blogs, interesting and inspiring seafarer quotes, photography and images, and of course our latest seafarer jobs.

Tuesdays and Fridays are good days to check us out on Facebook if you're hunting for jobs at sea as we usually highlight a seafarer job we are hiring for on Tuesdays, and we publish a round up of some of our jobs for seamen on Fridays.

We also include a link to Martide's website so you can quickly and easily jump to the signing in page where you can create an account and seafarer profile if you don't already have one - or apply for the seafarer job straight away if you do!

Connect with Martide on Twitter

You can find Martide on Twitter too where we tweet our seafarer job vacancies, blog posts, seafarer quotes, handy tips for seamen and seawomen, and other updates.

Just like Facebook, Tuesdays and Fridays are a good time to find our adverts for jobs at sea, but really you should check in with us any day - you never know what you'll find.

For example, we also love to re-tweet interesting maritime news stories, historical tales, cool photography of vessels and the ocean - and we're big fans of maritime time-lapse videos too!

Seriously, any video related to shipping, seafarers, and the sea that catches our eye when we’re having a scroll through our feed usually gets an eager retweet from us!

Connect with Martide on LinkedIn

You can also catch up with Martide on LinkedIn. We love our active seafarer and shipowner followers over on the site and we’ve had some interesting conversations - it really is good to hear from you all!

On LinkedIn, we also post blog updates, including the guest blog posts we write for other companies in the industry, share news and maritime items of interest, and - of course - we publish our latest seafarer jobs.

It can be tempting to think that LinkedIn is only a site for people that work 9 to 5 in an office and who are looking for corporate jobs, but you might be surprised at how many users in the maritime industry there are on the platform.

From shipping companies to seafarer organizations, to startup firms in the maritime industry, to seamen of all different ranks, there is definitely a lively community of people in our industry to connect with.

Connect with Martide on Pinterest

Finally, Martide has a Pinterest account too. It’s a lot of fun creating boards and exploring all the interesting images that other people have pinned and saved on the site.

While you might not use Pinterest to look for seafarer jobs, if you’d like to see handy infographics, tips, blog posts, images, inspirational seafarer quotes and photography - all related to the maritime industry, the ocean and more, come and find us over there.

Creating a community of connections

If you’re not already connected with us on one - or all! - of these social media platforms, why not come on over and follow us on LinkedIn, Twitter and Pinterest and like us on Facebook?

Of course, the added benefit for you is that you’re not just connecting with Martide, but you’ll also be joining a community of like minded people who, like you (and us!), live, breathe, eat and sleep the shipping industry.

Join in the conversations, let us know what you think, talk to your peers, and connect with other people in the same situation as you.

Of course, we post all of our jobs at sea on the Martide website and mobile app, but if you’re logged in to social media on your phone in your downtime, who knows, you might even find your next seafarer job while you're looking at videos of ships passing through the Panama Canal!

7 Ways that social media can actually be useful!

If you've so far managed not to get sucked in by Facebook, Twitter and the rest of the social media websites that are out there, maybe it's time to dip your toes in the water.

Here are just a handful of ways that social media can be useful:

  1. It's a great place to discover seafarer jobs
  2. It's another way to stay connected to your friends and family while you're at sea
  3. It's a good way of keeping up-to-date on news affecting the maritime industry
  4. It's somewhere you can feel part of a community - even when you're away
  5. It's a place to meet other seafarers and discuss the ups and downs of life at sea
  6. It's a way to chill in your downtime between shifts or watches
  7. It's a window to the world outside your vessel to help you feel more connected
