But for this blog post, we’re going to be taking a closer look at that all-important topic of how to find hot vacancies for seamen, including entry level cargo ship jobs and jobs at sea for higher seafarer ranks on our website. Let’s get going:
How to find jobs at sea with Martide
First of all, log into your Martide account using your email address and password. You will see your User Profile page, which looks something like the image below. To start your job search click on Find Jobs at the top of the page:
You will then be taken directly to our seafarer jobs page which looks something like this:
Here you can look for hot vacancies for seamen by scrolling down the page or by typing a position into the Search Box and hitting enter. In our example below we’ve searched for ship’s junior electrician jobs.
While you’re there, don’t forget to sign up for notifications when more cargo ship jobs with your search terms are posted by clicking the Subscribe button at the right of the page. You’ll then be sent alerts for the new open seafarer jobs meaning you can stay one step ahead of your competitors!
How to apply for Martide's jobs at sea
When you find a job you‘d like to apply for click on the rank / position. That will take you to a page showing the vacancy’s details, like this:
As you can see from the image above, this page shows you at a glance all the information you need to know about the shipping company and vessel, including both of their names plus specs such as the vessel type, engine type, DWT and fleet size.
It also tells you what you need to know about the contract itself including the start date, contract length, the trading area, the type of visa needed (if any) and the time you should have served in that rank and on that type of vessel.
Not all the information will be filled in for every job post, but there will be enough to get an understanding of the types of maritime jobs you are applying for.
And if you see a little black clock icon, like in our image above, that means the crew change date is close so don’t delay - if you're ready to work, submit your application ASAP!
Like the look of the job, vessel and contract? Click the blue Apply button at the bottom of the page.
The good news is that when you created your user seafarer profile and uploaded your documents, all of this information was saved and is automatically filtered into your job applications. That means you don’t have to enter it all again.
It’s super quick and easy to apply for our hot vacancies for seamen with just a couple of clicks of your mouse or taps of your screen!
Once you've clicked Apply, providing that all the information in your seafarer profile is up-to-date and correct, you will be taken to the screen below. As a maritime recruitment agency, we also recommend that you write a short cover message to the shipping company - you can do that in the blank text box.
When you’re sure that your message shows you in the best possible light, click the Apply button on this page and your application will be sent to the employer. It really is as easy as that!
How to update missing information in your seafarer profile
Meanwhile if your profile is missing some information or you need to upload a document that the employer has specified, when you click on the first Apply button you will see a page that looks something like this:
In our example above the green boxes with the check marks are all fine, but the white boxes need updating. The seafarer in this example also needs to add their marital status, nationality and place of residence to their user profile. To do that, click on the + plus sign.
You will also see this message at the bottom of the page - in the example below the seafarer needs to upload some additional documents (AFF and PSCRB) to the system. To do that, click on the pen icon.
That will take you to a screen that looks like this:
Select the document type that the previous screen told you is missing, enter the document's number, select the country of issue and enter the document's start and end dates.
You'll then need to upload a copy of the document. Below the start and end date boxes you will see this:
To add a document, either drag it from your computer desktop into the box above or click on the upload file link. You can also add as many attachments per document as needed - for example if it has more than one page that you need to show, such as a passport.
