At Martide we know different shipping companies use different abbreviations for different seafarer ranks. That’s why we’ve created the Ranks function, so you can change our set abbreviations to your own, if any of ours are different to the ones you prefer. Here’s how to do that.

Understanding your Ranks page

Log into your Martide account and click on Settings in the side menu and then on Ranks:

That will take you to a page that looks like this:

Here you can:

  • See all the ranks in the system.
  • Add new ranks.
  • Edit existing ranks.

You can see from this page that in Martide’s system, our abbreviation for Second Officer is 2/O, our abbreviation for Chief Officer is C/O, our abbreviation for Master is MAS and so on.

How to add a new rank

Click the blue +Add rank button at the top of the page:

You will then see a pop-up box that looks like this:

Here you can:

  • Enter the name of the rank.
  • Enter the abbreviation you use for that rank.
  • Click Save when you're done and your entry will appear in the list on the Ranks page.

How to edit a rank

If any of our abbreviations aren’t the same as the ones you use in your company, on the main Ranks page, click the little pen icon next to the rank you want to change:

That will take you to a pop-up box that looks like this:

Here you can change the abbreviation. Click Save when you're finished.

In our example above, we clicked on the rank of Second Officer. Our abbreviation is 2/O but you can change this to whatever you like. For example, we're going to change it to 2M. You will see the updated version in the list on the main Ranks page:
