0 Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) Seafarer Jobs

Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) are high-speed craft used primarily in the offshore wind industry to transport personnel, tools, and light cargo between shore bases and offshore installations such as wind turbines and substations. These vessels require competent, safety-focused crew to operate in dynamic conditions, often under time pressure and strict regulatory oversight. CTV operations emphasize passenger safety, efficient vessel handling, and maintenance of both marine and onboard support systems.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Master / Skipper

  • Hold full command of the vessel, ensuring safe navigation, maneuvering, and crew transfers in varying sea and weather conditions.
  • Maintain compliance with flag state, class, and client-specific safety requirements, including ISM and ISPS.
  • Liaise directly with marine coordinators, offshore site personnel, and port authorities.
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety briefings prior to transfer operations.
  • Oversee all onboard activities, emergency preparedness, and passenger welfare.

Mate / Chief Officer (if applicable)

  • Assist the Master with vessel handling, navigation, and mooring.
  • Supervise crew transfer operations at offshore structures, ensuring secure landings and gangway use.
  • Conduct pre-departure checks and maintain vessel safety equipment and records.
  • Act as Safety Officer and assist with reporting, drills, and compliance documentation.

Deckhand / Deck Crew

  • Assist with fender handling, mooring, line throwing, and securing of cargo or equipment.
  • Maintain deck cleanliness, assist with fuel, water, and stores bunkering, and carry out routine vessel maintenance.
  • Support crew and passenger safety by monitoring movement during transfer operations.
  • Assist with emergency response duties including man-overboard, fire, or medical scenarios.

Engineer / Technician (for larger CTVs or hybrid vessels)

  • Monitor and maintain propulsion systems, generators, hydraulic equipment, and onboard electronics.
  • Conduct routine checks on engine health, fuel consumption, and auxiliary machinery.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and minor repairs during daily operations.
  • Maintain engine logs, defect reports, and ensure environmental compliance (e.g., bilge water control).

Dual Role Crew (common in small CTVs)

  • Perform combined duties as Skipper/Engineer or Mate/Deckhand depending on vessel manning structure.
  • Ensure compliance with safe manning requirements and maintain operational flexibility during shift rotations.
  • Carry out pre- and post-voyage inspections, vessel cleanliness, and technical reporting.

Responsibilities Common to All Crew:

  • Ensure a high standard of safety and professionalism, particularly in passenger interaction and vessel presentation.
  • Carry out pre-transfer safety briefings and verify PPE usage for all offshore personnel.
  • Participate in drills, risk assessments, and routine maintenance schedules.
