Martide’s partners are seeking hardworking and dependable Ordinary Seamen (OS) / Cooks  to join their deck teams aboard various merchant ships and tankers. This entry-level position plays a vital role in supporting vessel operations, deck maintenance, and shipboard safety. Ordinary Seamen Cooks work under the supervision of the Bosun and Deck Officers, performing a wide range of general duties related to cargo handling, vessel upkeep, navigational support and meal prep.

Key responsibilities generally include:

• Deck Maintenance & Cleaning: Perform cleaning, chipping, scraping, and painting of the ship’s exterior and interior to maintain a clean, safe, and presentable vessel.
• Cargo Handling Assistance: Support cargo loading, unloading, and stowage operations, following cargo plans and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
• Mooring & Unmooring Support: Handle mooring lines, heaving lines, and fenders during port arrival, departure, and anchoring operations, ensuring safe berthing of the vessel.
• Watchkeeping Duties: Assist with bridge watchkeeping, acting as a lookout to monitor other vessels, obstacles, and navigational hazards.
• Equipment Handling: Support the use, maintenance, and storage of deck equipment, tools, and gear, ensuring all items are secure and in good working condition.
• Emergency Response: Participate in emergency drills and respond to real-time incidents, such as fire, collision, or man-overboard situations, as part of the ship’s emergency response team.
• Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Compliance: Follow shipboard health, safety, and environmental protocols, ensuring compliance with international maritime safety regulations.
• Line Handling & Rigging: Assist with rigging tasks, including handling ropes, wires, and lifting equipment used during mooring, anchoring, and cargo operations.
• Assistance to Deck Officers: Provide general support to deck officers and the Bosun, following instructions and completing assigned tasks efficiently.
• General Housekeeping: Support the cleaning and maintenance of crew living quarters, communal spaces, and recreational areas to ensure safe and hygienic conditions.
• Learning & Development: Take part in on-the-job training and practical assignments to build seamanship skills, develop maritime knowledge, and prepare for certification as an Able Seaman.
• Oversee the preparation, cooking, and service of meals for crew and officers.
• Plan and design daily menus that offer variety, nutritional balance, and taste, while managing food costs and minimizing waste.
• Ensure compliance with maritime food safety and hygiene standards, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the galley and food storage areas.
• Oversee the ordering, receipt, and storage of provisions, conducting inventory checks to ensure stock availability for the entire voyage.
• Respond to dietary requirements, food allergies, and special requests, ensuring all crew needs are met.
• Conduct inspections and audits of galley operations to ensure health, hygiene, and quality standards are upheld.
• Collaborate with ship management to ensure seamless meal service during peak hours, special events, or changes in voyage schedules.
