Whether you’re a current user of Martide’s maritime recruitment and crewing software or you’re thinking about adopting a new crew planning system, you might be interested to learn about our new Vessel Custom Contacts functionality.

In this post we’ll explain what Custom Contacts are in relation to your vessels and how to use the feature.

Maritime recruitment and crewing system new feature

We know that when you manage vessels, recruit seafarers or plan crew and crew changes, you often have a fair few people that you need to deal with. That’s why we’ve made it easier for you to connect with the right people when you’re using our crewing software.

In Martide all of your vessels have default contacts. These are:

  • Crew Operator
  • Technical Superintendent
  • Designated Person Ashore
  • Procurement Officer
  • Vessel Operator

These job roles are all displayed on the Vessels page in Martide underneath each of your vessels’ details. However, we understand that these contacts might not cover absolutely everyone you work with - or that you might use different names for different roles within your shipping company.

Therefore, if you need more contacts, we’ve made it simple for you to add one or more customized ones. These new contacts will be added to all of your company's vessels.

Here's how to use the Vessel Custom Contacts feature

First of all, sign into your Martide account and click on Settings in the drop down menu under your profile icon. Then click Vessel Custom Contacts:

The Vessel Custom Contacts page looks like this:

As you can see, from our example above, at first you won't have any contacts set in the system. To add a new Vessel Custom Contact, click the Add Vessel Custom Contact button at the top. You will then see this pop-up box:

Type the name of your contact - for example Crew Manager or Recruitment Officer - into the box and click Save.

Your Custom Contact will now appear on the main page:

You can add as many Custom Contacts as you need so keep on going until you’ve covered all of your potential contacts..

How to edit or delete a Vessel Custom Contact

To edit a Vessel Custom Contact - for example if you want to change the name of the role - click the pen and notepad icon next to it. This will open the same pop-up box and you can make your change.

To delete a Vessel Custom Contact if you no longer need it, simply click the trash can icon.

How to assign a contact to your vessels

To use one of your new vessel contacts and assign that job role to a vessel, head over to the Vessels page in Martide and click on a vessel's name:

That will take you to the vessel's profile page:

You can see the default vessel contacts and who is the person assigned to that role in the image above.

To add one of the contacts you have added in the Vessels Custom Contact page, scroll down to the Vessel Contacts section, where you will again see the default contacts:

Click the pen icon in the corner of the section (see above) and this pop-up box will open:

In this pop-up box you can do a number of things. You can:

  • Delete and reassign the contact type and account (person) in that role by clicking the X in each box.
  • Delete a contact and account entirely by clicking the trash can icon next to it.
  • Add a contact by clicking the Add Contact text.
  • Add a new manager and Vessel Custom Contact by clicking in the Vessel Custom Contact and Account boxes and choosing a contact/person from the drop down menus:

You can add as many of these new roles as you like by clicking the Add Manager text.

And that’s it! A simple but useful feature that we hope will make Martide’s maritime recruitment and crew planning software that little bit easier to use.
