All Things Martide

For this post we thought we’d spread a bit of social media love and let anyone who reads our weekly seafarer blog know that we’re also active on some other platforms, namely social media.

If you're also on social media - which you probably are! - you'll no doubt know how easy it is to spend hours scrolling through your news feeds and looking at funny animal videos - we're guilty of it too - but on Martide's social media accounts we try to provide our followers with something useful every now and again!

Something useful, of course, being seafarer jobs.

By the way, even if you're not using any social media platforms, keep on reading, keep reading as we'll let you into a few secrets and tell you why you should be using at least some social media platforms in your hunt for the latest and most up-to-date jobs at sea.

But it's not all work, work, work as we're also big fans of sharing some cool photos and maritime videos from the people that we follow.

So let's get into it and tell you where you can find us on social media.

This is where you can find Martide on social media!

We don't use every single social media website out there - we just don't have the time for that! We've also got blog posts to write, our crew managers and manning agents to keep happy, and of course seamen and women to help find the best seafarer jobs!

Connect with Martide on Facebook

But you will find Martide on Facebook - naturally! Who isn't on Facebook? And while privately we all might moan about the amount of time some of our friends spend on the website, there's no denying that Facebook has its uses.

On our Facebook page, for example, we post our blogs, interesting and inspiring seafarer quotes, photography and images, and of course our latest maritime jobs.

It’s a good idea to check in with us a couple of times a day too, while you’re scrolling through your feed as we often post more than one seafarer job vacancy a day. And this goes for all of our social media accounts.

In our posts we also include a link to Martide's website so you can quickly and easily jump to the signing in page where you can create an account and seafarer profile if you don't already have one - or apply for the maritime job straight away if you do!

Follow Martide on X (formerly known as Twitter)

Okay, hands up how many of you are still calling it Twitter, even if we all know Elon Musk wants us to call it X?! We’re guilty of it too but, Twitter, sorry X, is where we tweet our maritime job vacancies, blog posts, seafarer quotes, handy tips for seamen and seawomen, and other updates.

Just like Facebook, we often post more than one job a day, or a couple of jobs and a blog post, so feel free to check in with us any time - you never know what you'll find.

For example, we also love to retweet (are they still tweets even though it’s not Twitter anymore??) interesting maritime news stories, historical tales, cool photography of vessels and the ocean - and we're big fans of maritime time-lapse videos too!

Seriously, any video related to shipping, seafarers, and the sea that catches our eye when we’re having a scroll through our feed usually gets an eager retweet from us!

Search for maritime jobs with Martide on LinkedIn

You can also catch up with Martide on LinkedIn. We love our active seafarer, crew manager and manning agent (as well as other industry professionals) followers over on the site and we’ve had some interesting conversations - it really is good to hear from you all!

On LinkedIn, we also post blog updates, share news and maritime items of interest, and - of course - we publish our latest seafarer jobs.

It can be tempting to think that LinkedIn is only a site for people that work 9 to 5 in an office and who are looking for corporate jobs, but you might be surprised at how many users in the maritime industry there are on the platform.

From shipping companies to maritime organizations, to startup firms in the maritime industry, to seafarers of all different ranks, there is definitely a lively community of people in our industry to connect with.

Check out Martide on Pinterest

While it’s not quite as industry-focused or professional as LinkedIn, we also have a Pinterest account. It’s a lot of fun creating boards and exploring all the interesting images that other people have pinned and saved on the site.

While you might not use Pinterest to look for maritime jobs, if you’d like to see handy infographics, tips, blog posts, images, inspirational seafarer quotes, marine life, ports and harbors, nautical tattoos and photography - all related to the shipping industry, the ocean and more, come and find us over there.

Take a look at our posts on Instagram

Instagram doesn’t need any introduction and although it took us a while to create an Insta account, we decided to take the leap and are currently posting our maritime job adverts and other images on the platform.

Only time will tell if the Gram is the place to be for Martide and anyone who is looking for a job at sea, but if you’re a regular user of Instagram, why not follow us and get regular job postings on your feed too?

After all, you never know if you might find your next seafarer job while you’re keeping up to date with your favorite movie stars, singers, gamers and the other people you follow!

Find and follow Martide on Bluesky

Now for a slightly lesser known social media platform, but one that we’re enjoying being an active part of so far, is Bluesky.

For the uninitiated, Bluesky aims to create a more transparent social media experience and it lets users take control of their accounts - as opposed to being subject to algorithms, adverts and company policies, such as those found with the other big platforms.

Bluesky works similarly to X/Twitter, meaning it’s a microblogging site and it has attracted attention as an alternative to X. Particularly as many users seek more control over their online interactions and communities. It launched in an invite-only format but has since opened to the public, and it is growing steadily.

We’ve only been using Bluesky for a short while but have already had some fun and interesting conversations with other users who are actively engaging with the blog posts and other things we’ve been posting and reposting.

Come and find Martide on Bluesky here and join in the conversation and let’s help grow the maritime community over there!

Creating a community of connections

If you’re not already connected with us on one - or all! - of these social media platforms, why not come on over and follow us on LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Bluesky and Pinterest and like us on Facebook?

Of course, the added benefit for you is that you’re not just connecting with Martide, but you’ll also be joining a community of like minded people who, like you (and us!), live, breathe, eat and sleep the shipping industry.

Join in the conversations, let us know what you think, talk to your peers, and connect with other people in the same situation as you.

Of course, we post all of our jobs at sea on the Martide website and mobile app, but if you’re logged in to social media on your phone in your downtime, who knows, you might even find your next seafarer job while you're looking at videos of ships passing through the Panama Canal!

7 Ways that social media can actually be useful!

If you've so far managed not to get sucked in by Facebook, Instagram and the rest of the social media websites that are out there, maybe it's time to dip your toes in the water.

Here are just a handful of ways that social media can be useful:

  1. It's a great place to discover seafarer jobs
  2. It's another way to stay connected to your friends and family while you're at sea
  3. It's a good way of keeping up-to-date on news affecting the maritime industry
  4. It's somewhere where you can feel part of a community - even when you're away
  5. It's a place to meet other seafarers and discuss the ups and downs of life at sea
  6. It's a way to chill in your downtime between shifts or watches
  7. It's a window to the world outside your vessel to help you feel more connected
