A Seafarer's Guide to the Martide Message Inbox

A Seafarer's Guide to the Martide Message Inbox

Eve Jones

If you’re a seafarer who has applied for one or more maritime jobs through Martide, shipowners/employers and manning agents can communicate with you about your application through our messaging feature.

When you create an account with Martide you’ll be given your own private inbox, which lets you store your seafarer job related messages all in one place.

Showing potential employers that you’re on the ball when it comes to something as simple as replying to messages is crucial. Applying for a seafarer job vacancy is like a competition and you need to let shipowners and managers see that you’re heads and shoulders above your competitors.

Things such as writing a great CV for the maritime industry, presenting yourself well during Skype interviews and replying to messages promptly are all part of that.

Martide aims to make finding a job easier than ever. The Message Inbox is easy to use and is really helpful so here’s the lowdown on using it and making sure you stand out in a crowded job market.

Log in to your Martide account. The first page you see will be your User Profile. You’ll see a little envelope icon at the top of the page:

Click on the envelope and you'll be taken to your inbox. Your inbox is divided into sections. The side panel on the left is where you can select which messages to view. It's organized by Jobs and Manning Agents. It looks something like this:

Click on the little arrows at the left of the companies under jobs to open up a list of vessels you have applied to jobs on.

Click on a vessel and you will see the Messages relating to that job application:

In the 2nd panel you will see:

  • The name of the vessel
  • The position applied for (in this case Bosun)
  • The stage of the application (In this case, Negotiation)
  • If you are ex-crew and have worked on that vessel before

In the 3rd panel you'll see the message thread. This is a message the candidate (i.e. you) have sent to a manning agent.

If you look at the top of the screenshot above you'll see a blue/white button that says Manning Agent / Employer. This lets you switch between messages from either manning agents or employers.

You will also see a blank text box at the bottom of the page - this is where you can type your messages. Add an attachment by clicking the paperclip icon.

Finally, in the 4th panel you will see the personal info of the person you are messaging. In our example it is an employer:
