Document Types
In Martide you will find a feature called Document Types. This gives you the ability to rename any existing document in the system to one that makes more sense for your company.
For example, in Martide’s system the document for a 2nd Engineer is called ‘2nd Engineer.’ But you might want to call it something else, such as Second Engineer or 2E.
Document Types lets you do this so that the document is called Second Engineer or 2E everywhere in the system for your company. Other companies still will see 2nd Engineer - unless they have changed the name to something else for their own users.
How to use Document Types
Log into your Martide account and click Settings in the drop down menu under your profile picture in the top right hand corner and then on Document Types:

You will go to this page:

Here you can:
- See a list of all the documents in Martide’s system, listed in alphabetical order.
- Change the order of the list so documents are listed in reverse order by clicking the arrow next to Original Name.
- See the documents’ Original Name and the Display Name.
- Search for a document using the search bar at the top.
- Edit a document’s name by clicking the pen icon to its right.
How to edit a Document Type
Click the pen icon next to the document you want to edit:

That will open this pop-up box:

In our example we’re going to change the name of the Able Seafarer Deck document in Martide’s system to AB Deck. Type the name that you want to change the document to into the Display Name box:

Click Save and you will return to the main page where you will see the name change:

If you want to change the name back to the original or change it to something else, click the pen icon again and you can make your change in the same pop-up box.
And that’s it! We hope you find this feature useful. Meanwhile, did you also know that you can do the same thing with seafarer ranks in Martide’s system? You can read how to quickly change the rank abbreviations you use in your own company here in our quick guide to the Ranks page.
